Olympic Torch Comes Through Chippenham

What an exciting time to live in England!  The Queen is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics will take place in London in late July.  Do we plan to attend these events?  Probably not.  Talk about crazy crowds and mass chaos!  We hope to educate the kids on these special events and take place in the celebrations in our town, a little closer to home.

When the Olympic Torch came through Chippenham, most schools either walked to watch it or they did not require students to be at school until 11:00 a.m.  I thought that was wonderful to allow the children to witness what may be a once in a lifetime event.  Amelia, Cora and I decided walked with Dylan's class to see the excitement.
She did wake up right before the torch came down the street.  Dylan's teacher assistant held her so I could take pictures.

They waited so patiently on the curb.  The torch was about 30 minutes late.

The street was packed as far as I could see in either direction.

I think everyone in Chippenham was there, except Eric.  He really did have to work that morning.

Dylan's teacher is wearing the yellow vest.  Some of his 24 classmates are sitting along the curb.

I should've made some American flags to bring along.

At least it was a sunny day in the 70's.  Everyone there said it was SO hot.  We loved it!

Some older children from Dylan's school with their torches

Blue eyes woke up just in time for the action.

All of the police and emergency vehicles here have this neon yellow color with the black checks.

A little parade before the torch.

Music and dancing

Not sure how they got in the parade

THERE IT IS!!!!

Look at that FLAME!

Woo hoo!  2012 Olympics!

Here's a little video of it quickly passing by us.
